The Student’s Prayer

Don’t impose on me what you know,

I want to explore the unknown

And be the source of my own discoveries.

Let the known be my liberation, not my slavery.

The world of your truth can be my limitation;

Your wisdom my negation.

Don’t instruct me; let’s walk together.

Let my richness begin where yours ends.

Show me so that I can stand

On your shoulders.

Reveal yourself so that I can be

Something different.

You believe that every human being

Can love and create.

I understand, then, your fear

When I ask you to live according to your wisdom.

You will not know who I am

By listening to yourself.

Don’t instruct me; let me be.

Your failure is that I be identical to you.”

- Umberto Maturana

2012: Fiction Galore

London newspaper The Guardian has criticised the viral marketing tactics of director Roland Emmerich’s latest film 2012 as “deeply flawed” and associated it with “websites that make even more spurious claims about 2012.”

The film, starring John Cusack, Danny Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt and Woody Harrelson, was released worldwide this month breaking Hollywood collection records even in India. Exactly a year ago, the studio had released the first teaser trailer showing a megatsunami surging over the Himalayas. A purportedly scientific message was interlaced in it, suggesting that the world would end in 2012, and that the world's governments were not preparing its population for the event. The trailer ended with a message to viewers to "find out the truth" by searching "2012" on search engines.

The studio also launched a viral marketing website operated by the fictional Institute for Human Continuity, where filmgoers could register for a lottery number to be part of a small population that would be rescued from the global destruction. The fictitious website lists the Nibiru collision, a galactic alignment, and increased solar activity among its possible doomsday scenarios.

David Morrison of NASA says he received over 1,000 inquiries from people who thought the website was genuine. “I've even had cases of teenagers writing to me saying they are contemplating suicide because they don't want to see the world end. I think when you lie on the Internet and scare children in order to make a buck, that is ethically wrong,” Morrison said.

There is a glut of non-fiction titles in the market on the 2012 phenomenon. Besides the new movie 2012, a number of films deal with the subject. A brief filmography would run thus: I Am Legend (2007); 2012: Doomsday (2008) a B-Movie by The Asylum; Death Race (2008) refers to collapse of US economy; In I Spit on Your Rave, a virus which causes a zombie apocalypse is released during the 2012 Summer Olympics; Diarreoal Legend (2009); 21/12 Doomsday (2010).

More television dramas and documentaries are expected. Meanwhile, these are already on air:

Doctor Who: “Dalek,” 2005: A Dalek breaks loose under the Utah salt plains, and plans to kill every living thing on Earth. “Fear Her,” 2006: The episode is set during the lead-up to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Futurama: “Xmas Story,” 1999: The War of 2012 occurs, during which talk-show host Conan O'Brien lost his “freakishly long legs.” “Jurassic Bark,” 2002; Philip J. Fry's dog Seymour dies in this year.

Joe 90 is a 1968 television series devised by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson set in the years 2012-13.

The X-Files: “The Truth,” 2002: On December 22, Aliens begin colonization of Earth.

In the anime version of Death Note, the SPK organisation is formed (in the manga, this occurs in 2009) following Near's meeting with the President of the United States.

Rahxephon: The Mu attack on Tokyo trigger a series of events leading to the “tuning of the world.”

Ask Deepak Chopra

Scholars of various stripes have disputed the idea that a catastrophe will happen in 2012 despite the wide-spread eschatological beliefs and proposals, which posit that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on or around December 21, 2012.

Astronomers and other natural scientists have rejected the apocalyptic forecasts, on the grounds that the anticipated events are precluded by astronomical observations, or are unsubstantiated by the predictions that have been generated from these findings. NASA likens fears about 2012 to those about the Y2K bug in 2000, suggesting that an adequate analysis should stem fears of disaster.

Here’s how the New Age guru Deepak Chopra tackles the issue, in response to a query in his website:

Question:

Is the planet Nirubu or Planet X entering our solar system in 2012? If so, will the pole of the Earth change? Why the ancient Maya’s calendar ends on 13.0.0.0.0 which is December 21, 2012? They say there will be cosmic shifting. It is said that when Planet Nirubu crossed the Earth 3,600 years ago, the Earth’s pole changed ending the civilization of that time. If 2012 is the Doomsday, time is very short. What’s the best thing to do now if 2012 is the end of our civilization? We have searched many journals, videos, articles on this; it all looks confusing and not sure how reliable the information is.

Deepak’s Answer:

I don’t know what is going to happen in the future, and regardless of what others may feel, no one else knows the future with certainty either. But having said that, I feel pretty confident in assuring you that a planet Nirubu will not be entering our solar system and bringing doomsday with it. (If it was arriving here in the next four years it would be well inside our galaxy and close enough to be detected.)

There are many traditions including the ones you mentioned that refer to a great transformation in the world. One could also argue along fairly conventional lines that the current trends in climate change, economics, population growth, the explosion of information and the electronic connectivity of the world are all powerful forces conspiring toward some very big changes in the near future.

What is most interesting to me in all this is not what may or may not happen in the external world, but rather the changes within our consciousness that are available to us right now. It is the radical choices for transformation we can make in our life now, individually and collectively that will be the ultimate determinates as to what kind of future we will experience. If we choose to claim our authentic core of identity as agents of kindness, love, and understanding, then you won’t need look at 2012 with worry or anticipation - you can create your own splendid transformation right here and now.

Will Earth Explode?

When CBS News reported Australian scientist Dr. Tom Chalko’s research study showing that global seismic activity on Earth is now five times more energetic than it was just 20 years ago, there was a flurry of taunts and mockeries. Dr. Chalko is famous for his Thiaoouba Prophecy and “aura print” branded t-shirts!

Dr. Chalko’s research proves that destructive ability of earthquakes on Earth increases alarmingly fast and that this trend is set to continue, unless the problem of "global warming" is comprehensively and urgently addressed.

The analysis of more than 386,000 earthquakes between 1973 and 2007 recorded on the US Geological Survey database proved that the global annual energy of earthquakes on Earth began increasing very fast since 1990.

Dr. Chalko said that global seismic activity was increasing faster than any other global warming indicator on Earth and that this increase is extremely alarming. "The most serious environmental danger we face on Earth may not be climate change, but rapidly and systematically increasing seismic, tectonic and volcanic activity," said Dr. Chalko.

"Increase in the annual energy of earthquakes is the strongest symptom yet of planetary overheating. NASA measurements from space confirm that Earth as a whole absorbs at least 0.85 Megawatt per square kilometre more energy from the Sun than it is able to radiate back to space. This 'thermal imbalance' means that heat generated in the planetary interior cannot escape and that the planetary interior must overheat. Increase in seismic, tectonic and volcanic activities is an unavoidable consequence of the observed thermal imbalance of the planet," said Dr. Chalko.

"Unless the problem of global warming (the problem of persistent thermal imbalance of Earth) is addressed urgently and comprehensively - the rapid increase in global seismic, volcanic and tectonic activity is certain. Consequences of inaction can only be catastrophic. There is no time for half-measures.”

In 2000 Dr. Chalko said the solid nucleus of our planet is in principle a nuclear reactor, it is eccentric, and that our collective ignorance may cause it to overheat and explode.

Polar ice caps melt not because the air there is warmer than 0 degree Celsius, but because they are overheated from underneath. Volcanoes become active and erupt violently not because the Earth's interior "crystallises", but because the planetary nucleus is a nuclear fission reactor that needs cooling.

It seems that if we do not do anything today about Greenhouse Emissions that cause the entire atmosphere to trap more Solar Heat, we may not survive the next decade. In a systematically under-cooled spherical core reactor the cumulative cause-effect relationship is hyperbolic and leads to explosion.

If you doubt whether a planet can explode - you need to see a witness report of a planetary explosion in our Solar system. Plato (428-348 BC) reported that the explosion of the planet Phaeton had been perceived by our ancestors on Earth to be as bright as lightning.

2012: Dawn of Golden Age

Mayan Long Count apart, many speak of Indian, Chinese and Egyptian traditions regarding the cataclysmic events ahead. Indian gurus are constantly asked about the significance of the year 2012.

Here, Sri Kalki Bhagavan, founder of Golden Age Foundation, globally known as Kalki Dharma promoted with the objective of helping humanity to discover and experience the truth of the ancient principles and live in harmony with the Universe, speaks about the need to change:

“Most of you know that the earth has got a magnetic field. As the earth’s molten core is rotating; the magnetic field is created. The thought sphere of the human mind is located in the earth’s magnetic field. This magnetic field has been weakening dramatically over last 10 years.

”Now, in physics there is a parameter called Schumann’s Resonance. Using that we can determine the strength of the earth’s magnetic field. While for many centuries, it was constant around 7.80 cycles per second, during the last 7-8 years, it has risen to 11 cycles per second and is continuing to increase dramatically. If you work it out mathematically, it appears that, by the year 2012, the Schumann’s is likely to be 13 cycles per second. When this resonance is 13 cycles per second, the earth’s core would stop rotating with magnetic field gone, your mind is gone. When I say ‘your mind,’ what I mean is your ‘samskaras.’ The pressure of the past 11,000 years of samskaras will vanish.

”In the Dharma, we also say, ‘Mind is Karma.’ All actions start from your mind. The mind is nothing but a storehouse of samskaras or past life vasanas from which all action emanates. This is stored in the earth’s magnetic field. So in the year 2012, it will become zero for a few days. After that the core will start rotating again. This would be a fresh beginning for man or the dawn of the Golden Age. This is the significance of the year 2012.

“How do we know, it will happen? The study of fossil records has shown that, it happens roughly after 11,000 years. It’s only a short time away and then we can all start afresh. That is why I want you to become enlightened by 2012. If you are enlightened, with all your samskaras gone, we can begin a new yuga, which can be called Sathya Yuga or the Golden Age. Man will enter into a new state of altered consciousness.”

As I told you already, the earth’s resonance is increasing which means the earth’s heart is undergoing a transformation. The earth has got a physical body, like you have a body. It has got a consciousness as well. Now as the resonance is increasing the earth’s heart is functioning very differently from before. Now, your heart and the earth’s heart are connected. The earth’s heart can be influenced by your heart and vice versa. That is why, it is essential that your heart-beat synchronises with the earth’s resonance. This means your heart must flower. Your heart will flower when you discover love in your relationships.

“If you have to discover love, you must stop judging your parents, spouses, etc., internally. Nobody can be judged as the whole universe directly influences all events, even the behaviour of the people."

"So learn to experience life. Life has to be experienced, be it pain or pleasure.”

2012: Coming Into Light

Erik Berglund performs in Bengaluru.

The crystalline sound of Erik Berglund’s Irish harp is sublimely celestial – soulful and angelic. The world renowned recording artist who has performed in almost all the major cities in the world and “major power points” such as Machu Piccu, the Great Pyramid, Glastonbury, Easter Island, Mt. Fuji, the Grand Tetons, Lake Louise, the Yucatan, the Hawaiian Islands and the Holy Land, is also a sensitive healer who has touched many lives.

With his unique 33-string harp, specially designed “to vibrate the heart” by his teacher, the legendary harpist Mildred Dilling in New York City, Erik enchanted the delegates of the Global Congress of Spiritual Scientists, delving into the core theme, ‘Earth Evolution Through Spiritual Revolution,’ recently in Bengaluru.

Since he has also studied meditation, healing and life lessons with the great spiritual teacher Hilda Charlton, Erik’s musical sessions are interspersed with deep meditative retreats and insightful anecdotes. He recalled how, cycling through a New York City street, one day he came across the Danish fairy tales writer Hans Christian Andersen’s statue. One of his friends had remarked that Erik had a close resemblance to Andersen. Later, while touring Denmark, Erik visited Andersen’s home and to his dismay found some childhood photos of Andersen that looked almost like photocopies of his own album!

Erik speaks of ways to be released from the pain and anguish of “unresolved past, unfinished business from the past,” cleansing the negative portals of energy. Specific tools are required to get us released from “the matrix of fear.” Erik says that we are trapped in by a dark fear about the loss of connection with the Divine. “We are held in this matrix, at 44 points. Every point has to turn into light. For this you need to be touched by the energy of stars, tune into higher frequencies.”

Erik believes that though the world will not come to an end in 2012, there is going to be a tremendous shift in energy, a possibility of great transformation. “The ancients had foreseen this. The Mayans called it the Day of Creation. The Incas said the outer space will touch us. All the pyramids, their consciousness and energy, will be activated. Here’s our greatest potential for coming into light in 26,000 years,” says Erik.

The most awesome things are going to take place as the Sun moves closest to the galactic centre. Neptune, Uranus and Pluto are coming together. The Earth will be touched by Cirius, the spiritual planet. “We get the energy of letting go from Cirius,” says Erik. “Power of evolutionary change will come from the Great Bear. The years from 2020 to 2050 will be a Golden Age for mankind.”

But for now Erik Berglund would be content to pluck the strings of his heavenly harp – soothing your weary soul.

Damanhur: Resplendent Utopia

You dream of a land where man lives in absolute harmony with nature. A new frontier of human ingenuity and creativity where that which is beautiful in each person could be nourished so that every entity could express their unique gifts and purpose for being on the planet. A perfect post-2012 utopia?

In Valchiusella valley at the foothills of the Piedmont Alps in northern Italy, about 40 kilometres from Turin, a community of around 1,000 people is living that phantasmagoric dream in an eco-village called Damanhur (City of Light). Named after an ancient city near Alexandria in Egypt, Damanhur is hailed by the UN as a model for a sustainable future.

Esperide Ananas and Crotalo Sesamo, ambassadors from Damanhur Federation, at Bengaluru’s Pyramid Valley.

Two ambassadors from the Federation of Damanhur, Esperide Ananas and Crotalo Sesamo, who visited Bengaluru recently as delegates to the Global Congress of Spiritual Scientists organised at the Pyramid Valley, shared with us an enthralling experience of one of their most recent offerings: Music of the Plants.

Part of Damanhur’s research into plant consciousness, the concert of the plants is a heartwarming interaction between man and nature. You sing a Carnatic raga, and the plant responds with an improvisation on those sequences of musical notations! Each plant has its own song, and they respond differently to each musical strain of various instruments.

Esperide Ananas and Crotalo Sesamo had brought biofeedback sensors and synthesizers with them from Damanhur. They “trained” a few local flowering plants and creepers picked up from a Bengaluru garden for the concert. They hooked up sensors to the root and a leaf of the plant. Electrical impulses from plants are passed on to a synthesizer, which converts them to sound waves. The synthesizer actually assigns a musical sound to each of the different ‘blips’ that the plant emits. In this incredible concert, the plants began to sing, almost rivaling a classical vocalist, a flutist, a guitarist and a harpist.

"Numerous living species of plants and animals are disappearing, impoverishing culture and diversity, as well as the precious resources of our world,” said Esperide Ananas, Communications Director of Damanhur Federation. “Damanhur is like the formation of a new cell in opposition to this involution. Our intention is to create a new people with a new culture and civilization – a people based on the exaltation of differences in which everyone, thanks to their own characteristics, represents a precious piece of the whole mosaic."

What began as a secret cult, a small band of dreamers led by a young visionary tax consultant, Oberto Airaudi (Falco) in 1975 in Turin has flourished into a self-governing federation with its own constitution and a territory extending over 500 hectares in Valchiusella and the Alto Canavese area at the foothills of the Piedmont Alps. The large eco-society, based upon spiritual values and human solidarity, has become a pioneering research centre for alternative energy, organic farming, integrated therapies. It boasts of a viable economy with its own currency (Damanhur Credito is on par with Euro), business enterprises, schools and an Open University offering courses in such esoteric subjects as astral travel, and “selfica” healing, involving the use of alchemical liquids and metals.

Members live collectively in group houses, each home having around 20 people of a wide age range, the idea being that learning is enhanced when people live in a multi-generational context. The oldest member of the community is 85. Recently, the birth of “a grandchild in the community” was a big event in Damanhur.

People of any nationality or religion can become a citizen in Damanhur. First, you are asked to “come and see.” The newcomer will be accommodated in guesthouses for a while. After a series of interaction and interviews, if you are found fit to be a member of the community, your application will be processed and approved. You have to contribute your skills and talent in any specialised field in art, science or business.

Citizens adopt new names derived from the combined names of animals and plants such as Sparrow Pinecone, Skipper Butterfly, Rattlesnake Pineapple etc, as a way of being reminded of the interconnectedness of all species.

The community offers various forms of marriage, including one year renewable contracts as well as legal arrangements for those who desire to be lifelong partners. If a couple desires to have a child arrangements can be made with the community for financially supporting the child until age 14. Children are not acknowledged as members, but are considered to be guests of the community until they are 18, when they are invited to choose whether or not they wish to become members.

The most celebrated spectacle in Damanhur is the Temples of Humankind, an extraordinary underground construction hidden in the heart of a mountain, and it is acclaimed as the Eighth Wonder of the World! An awe-inspiring complex, divided into thematic sections like the Water Hall, the Earth Hall, the Hall of Spheres, the Hall of Mirrors, the Metal Hall, the Blue Temple and the Labyrinth, it is built “at a meeting point of the Synchronic Lines, the ‘rivers’ of energy that link the Earth to the cosmos.”

The walls and hallways of the temples are completely covered in murals, stained glass, sculptures, mosaics and massive columns. It spreads over 8,500 cubic metres on five different levels, connected to one another by hundreds of metres of corridors. In some areas the ceilings are as high as 25 feet. One room is a four-sided pyramid covered in mirrors and topped with a glass dome. The ceiling of the Hall of Spheres is covered entirely in gold leaf.

"The Temples of Humankind are an underground work of art, created entirely by hand and dedicated to the divine nature of humanity. It is a great three-dimensional book which recounts the history of Humankind through all the art forms, a path of re-awakening to the Divine inside and outside of ourselves. In the Temples, every aspect has a meaning: the colours, the measurements and every detail follow a precise code of forms and proportions; every Hall has its specific resonance and its own sound," said Esperide Ananas.

And the incredible legend is that the entire project – excavating the earth and rock, constructing the massive and intricately decorated architectural complex underground – was all done in utter secrecy! Since there was no government sanction for excavation or building, the temple had to be built by stealth, underneath a house where they “pretended to throw parties and played loud music to detract attention from the noise of construction.” It took 15 years for the small group of non-architects, working four-hour shifts around the clock, to complete the work.

Then, a map of the secret temple fell into the hands of a local judge, through a former member of Damanhur. Troops were called in to "destroy the terrorist cult under the mountain." When they descended to storm the temple, they were overwhelmed forced to stop in their tracks as they gazed up at the magnificent structure with its massive columns and breathtaking artistic work.

Now the whole world acknowledges the Temples as “a great laboratory where art and science, technology and spirituality are united in the research of new roads for the evolution of humanity."
